Bollywood Dance Academy
Bollywood Dance Academy is a contemporary and whimsical romantic comedy about a young man falling in love with the most beautiful woman he's ever seen. He decides to win her heart by helping her win a dance competition, but first, he must learn how to dance.
For this project, the executive producers wanted an American-based show centered around Indian culture. Although set in Los Angeles, the show incorporated many Indian cultural references, including marriage constraints, the class system, and the romanticization of love.
Striking a balance between Bollywood throwbacks, such as songs and dance, and contemporary US rom-coms, which usually feature less scripted and more authentic moments, was essential.
Shayan and the creative team opted for extremely lush visuals with overly saturated colors, reminiscent of old Bollywood. To offset this, there were minimal camera movements used, solely relying on static shots. These creative choices gave the show a unique contemporary look without seeming out of place.
